V8 performance cars have been a staple of American automotive for decades. On the one hand, the Chevrolet Camaro stays in class after 2023, while Dodge replaces its V8s with hybrid and electric “eMuscle”. So it seems that the Ford Mustang has quickly become the last of a dying breed. Ford describes the new 2024 Ford Mustang as "edgy, sexy and disruptive." The Mustang has a sharper, more muscular and modern look and is getting a bit more tech savvy. But it's still pretty much the same Mustang, which is what almost everyone wanted anyway.

The Cockpit Goes Digital with the 2024 Ford Mustang
The Mustang gets a new cockpit with a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster and a driver-focused digital display that includes a 13.2-inch infotainment screen. Instead of switching to Google's Android operating system, Ford is sticking with a Mustang-specific version of its proprietary SYNC 4 system.
The screens will be highly customizable with features like the "Fox Body" display screen. They will also include 3D graphics using the Unreal game engine. Ford will move many controls to the touch screen. But the Mustang will have a noticeable, physical, passenger-accessible volume button.
Ford offers the Mustang a Performance Electronic Parking Brake, developed with the help of professional drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr. While the brake functions like a mechanical handbrake in daily driving, it turns into an electronic drift brake in track mode. There are also different modes to help novices improve their drifting skills.
Ford Will Also Offer Mustang Performance Package
Ford will offer a Performance Package for both GT and EcoBoost Mustang models. This could add features like front turret support, Torsen Limited-slip differential, wider wheels and tires, larger Brembo brakes and optional MagneRide active suspension. The Performance Package provides extra cooling for the brake ducts and engine oil in the GT. Buyers can add Recaro seats and an active exhaust system.
The base engine is still a 2.3-liter EcoBoost, although Ford says this version is all-new. The upgrade for the GT is the "advanced" 5.0-liter Coyote V8 with a new dual air intake box and dual throttle body design. Ford says the new GT will have the highest horsepower ever from a naturally aspirated engine. We do not yet have the figures to confirm this claim.
Ford did not launch the Mustang with a hybrid option, and all current Mustangs are rear-wheel drive. A major reason for this is the Mustang Mach E available if you need a Mustang-branded vehicle that is more efficient, more practical, or more weatherproof.
The 2024 Ford Mustang still offers a six-speed manual transmission in addition to the automatic transmission. But there is one detail. While the gear lever comes as standard on the GT model, it is no longer available on the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine. Ford is creating a more distinct visual difference between the base model and the GT in this generation. The first will take a basic look. The latter will increase aggression. The fronts of the two Mustangs will be different. The GT will also feature prominent hood vents, which the base model lacks.
