AMD 'Ready To Build Arm-based Chips'

AMD has a lot of experience when it comes to the x86-based processors. The company has been designing chips with this architecture for almost twenty years now. But even then, it seems like AMD is willing to jump into another area.

'Ready To Start'

According to a report from Tom's Hardware; AMD CFO Devinder Kumar has stated that the firm is now ready to start manufacturing Arm-based processors. He adds that we can see these chips at this year's Deutsche Bank Technology Conference. Earlier this year, AMD CEO Lisa Su had also commented about their desire to bring custom silicon solutions for the customers. So the Kumar's comments on this subject go in line with this stance. Even ARM, as you referenced, we have a very good relationship with ARM. And we understand that our customers want to work with us with that particular product to deliver the solutions," he said. He also added that even though they believe x86 is the main strength in that area, they are ready to answer this request even though it's not x86. It is also worth noting that there is the process of Nvidia's $45bn acquisition of the Arm that is still continuing. So despite AMD being an Arm licensee and having Arm architecture experience; the outcome of this acquisition is going to have a significant impact whether the company makes Arm-based chips or not.
