Will the new vehicle be used for military purposes?
The introduction of the system that can fly 18 drones at the same time brings the following question to mind: Will this new technology be used for military purposes? According to the news reported by CCTV Chinese state television, the new vehicle is called "Swarm Drone System". The launcher produced by China Ordnance Equipment Group (COEG), which can fly up to 18 drones at the same time, brought to mind the weaponized drone systems that China tested in 2020. COEG, which is owned by the Chinese state, says it can offer this vehicle for sale for domestic and foreign customers. Although the characteristics of the drones in the launcher are unknown, it was stated that they are similar to the kamikaze drones used by Russia in Ukraine. Many different usage scenarios have been created for the drone swarm system launcher. Some sources pointed out that these drones could be used as a method of attack or intelligence gathering. It is also thought to be preferred for precision strikes or swarm attacks.
Designed as Mobile Ammunition Launcher
According to COEG, the system is designed as a lightweight and maneuverable mobile ammunition launcher. The ammunition (or drone) has easily deployable/removable launch boxes. The system also includes some sensors that can be used for detection or navigation. The capabilities of the swarm drones have not been fully disclosed for now. Although COEG mentions that the new vehicle is suitable for reconnaissance and intelligence, there are some indications in the video that it can do more. For example, the drone can record video from remote locations thanks to the gimbal on the nose. The purpose for which China, which has been in tension with Taiwan for a while, will use these vehicles is still a mystery.
