Elon Musk May Merge Twitter and Substack
Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, announced in October that he had bought the platform for $44 billion. The billionaire, who has made a name for himself with the changes he has made since he bought the platform, said he was open to the idea of another acquisition. The Twitter CEO has expressed interest in acquiring Substack, a popular platform where independent writers and podcasters broadcast and get paid through subscriptions.
Responding to a user who asked if it made sense for Twitter to buy Substack and connect the two platforms in a good way, Musk replied, "I'm open to the idea." The Twitter CEO was reacting to Leighton Woodhouse, an independent reporter and filmmaker, posting about the "Twitter Files" on Substack. Musk then responded to the other user's comment. The user stated that the idea of Twitter and Substack would create a huge competition for the outdated old corporate media.
After Elon Musk bought Twitter, some of the information hidden within the company began to come to light. Some of the information and documents that emerged under the name "Twitter Files" suggested that information about US President Joe Biden was manipulated and shared with the FBI.
Twitter CEO reacted to the statements made by Leighton Woodhouse and some US journalists on Twitter Files; "Why is corporate journalism running to protect the state, not the public?" he tweeted. Later, responding to a comment from a user, Musk said he might buy Substack.
Substack was founded in 2017 by Chris Best, co-founder of Kik Messenger, Jairaj Sethi, a developer, and Hamish McKenzie, a former reporter. Founded in the US, Substack is an online platform that offers publishing, payment and design infrastructure to support newsletters. It helps writers send their digital newsletters directly to subscribed users.
