The self-published section of Amazon's Kindle store is filling up with books written by AI. And this is raising concerns about disinformation, that is, ethical and low-quality reading. The rise of widely available, easy-to-use AI tools is creating a new type of literature produced by robots. According to the information received, Amazon offers more than 200 books with ChatGPT listed as author or co-author.

ChatGPT for Creating Novels in a Short Time
The reasons why people "write" these books are of course variable. Some authors were previously discouraged by the time and effort it took to write a book. And now they are turning to ChatGPT to create short novels in hours. They also combine ChatGPT-generated text with images from platforms such as DALL-E and instantly market their creations online.
Brett Schickler, a salesman in Rochester, New York, said, "The idea of writing a book finally seemed possible. I thought, 'I can do this.'" Using ChatGPT to generate blocks of text from his commands, he created a 30-page illustrated children's e-book within hours. Currently listed on Amazon for US$2.99 on Kindle or US$9.99 in print, the book aims to teach children how to save money. The main character is Sammy the Squirrel, who collects and invests acorns.
The desire to easily create a book on ChatGPT echoes the sentiments of Neil Clarke, editor of the science fiction magazine Clarkesworld, which recently closed submissions following a spike in AI-created work. "There is an honest interest in getting published, but it doesn't necessarily do the actual work." Clarke wrote in a blog post.
According to the information, books written by ChatGPT for professionals about how to use ChatGPT are also on the rise. One of them, ChatGPT for Nonfiction Writers: How to Use ChatGPT to Write Better, Faster and More Effectively, lists the AI bot as a co-author along with the main author Hassan Oman. In this context, naming ChatGPT's contribution may also reinforce the author's perceived commitment to using the tool.
While we have yet to see a book written by ChatGPT achieve Harry Potter levels of success, that doesn't necessarily mean it's not coming. Meanwhile, algorithms may favor those with good reviews, while making it harder to find and sell those with bad reviews.
