OnePlus Unveils its First Mechanical Keyboard on its 9th Anniversary

OnePlus is celebrating its ninth anniversary with a teaser of its yet-to-be-released first-generation mechanical keyboard. This is part of the company's broader plans for the production of PC accessories. It outlines plans to produce a mechanical keyboard with custom switches and gaskets, offering a unique typing experience.

OnePlus' ninth anniversary event was held on December 17. The smartphone brand used the event to unveil its Feature X line of accessories. A promotional launch included peripherals and other PC accessories. The dual-seal design of the mechanical keyboard comes with a proprietary sound, which attracted a lot of attention at the launch. According to OnePlus, the device offers all-day comfort when typing or gaming. The keyboard comes in a premium aluminum package made using a CNC process. The keyboard also features custom profiles and switches created in collaboration with fans.

OnePlus Keyboard Design

The OnePlus mechanical keyboard will be compatible with Linux, Windows and macOS, although the wireless features of the device are not yet known. The layout of the new keyboard is similar to that of a MacBook. The device supports open-source firmware for switches and hot-swapping. The company plans to crowdsource the mechanical keyboard concept shortly, which will be released around February 2023.

Details about the company's mechanical keyboard concept are far from finalized and new information is still emerging. The company hopes that the concept will receive a positive reaction from the OnePlus global community. If plans go smoothly, the new OnePlus mechanical keyboard could start mass production in March or April 2023. Deliveries will follow. OnePlus is in conjunction with the rising global brand Oppo. The company also expects to enter the PC accessories space by its tenth anniversary.
