Spotify Launches Artificial Intelligence Powered "DJ" Feature!

Spotify's new feature using OpenAI technology called "DJ" generates AI-powered music recommendations. Spotify has added a robot DJ to its app. This robot DJ is a computerized song player that ranks music based on your musical tastes and listening history and has a "surprisingly realistic" sound. The beta version of DJ is available in English for Spotify Premium users in the US and Canada.

Spotify's Artificial Intelligence

Spotify offers many personalized features, such as Daily Mix and Discovery Weekly, playlists created specifically for its users' musical tastes. But the DJ feature differentiates itself by using OpenAI's technology, combining generative AI with Spotify's personalization technology. The company gives its AI technology to music editors to give you insights into the music, artists or genres you listen to.

Spotify DJ provides information about the tracks and artists it plays, with continuous commentary like a human DJ. The feature uses an AI text-to-speech engine from Sonantic, which Spotify acquired last year. Spotify says it used the voice of Xavier "X" Jernigan, head of cultural partnerships, to create the DJ's voice model before launching the feature.

Spotify DJ plays new releases or songs you've liked before based on your musical taste, and constantly updates the lineup based on your feedback. If the playlist DJ is playing doesn't have the song you want, you can switch to another genre or mood by clicking the "DJ" button. Gustav Söderström, Spotify's chief R&D officer, says the feature is "a generative, expressive and realistic AI DJ that delivers a personalized set of music and reviews to each user."

To access Spotify DJ, simply go to the Music Stream tab on the Home Page in the Spotify mobile app. You can use the feature by tapping the Play button on the DJ card. You can change the style, artist or mood with the DJ button at the bottom right of the screen. Spotify says it has an AI DJ available in beta today and can be reached by following the steps below:
